Jim Speers is an artist and teaches at the University of Auckland’s Elam School of Fine Arts. He makes documentary films that are often concerned with the social geography of urban environments, and how people explain the world they live in. He collaborates as part of a collective called Field Recordings which involves a combination of Chinese and New Zealand artists. Projects done with this group have been exhibited at Shanghai’s Rockbund Museum and at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. Jim is presently making a film that explores the life of a fishing town in Japan.
